Redlands Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire at an occupied home in the 1200 block of Dearborn Street Tuesday evening, March 31.

Responding units arrived shortly before 7:30 p.m. to find light smoke showing from the chimney of a two-story, single-family home. The fire was rapidly extinguished by the first units on scene.

Due to quick action by the homeowner and the first on-scene units, the fire was limited primarily to the upper portion of the chimney and away from the interior of the home and the attic space. No other structures were damaged. Firefighters took extra effort to limit any damage to the homeowners’ belongings.

The family was able to escape the home safely prior to firefighters’ arrival and no injuries were reported.

In addition to 15 Redlands firefighters, three firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Station 9, and three firefighters from the Loma Linda Fire Department responded to the incident.

The damage to the property was estimated at $5,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It took approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the fire. Firefighters remained on scene for more than an hour.
