Keeping our schools safe is one of the highest priorities of the Redlands Police Department. We have created this webpage to keep parents and students informed of the current investigation status of rumored threats to our schools.
If you are concerned about a rumored threat to a school in Redlands, please review the list below to see the status of its investigation. If you have a tip about a threat that is not listed in the chart below, please call our dispatch center at 909-798-7681 ext. 1.
The Redlands Police Department and the Redlands Unified School District will post information as soon as we are able to verify it and determine that publication of the information will not endanger the health and safety of the District’s students or staff, the neighboring community, or public safety personnel.

09/05/2024 | Citrus Valley High School | During second period, the Redlands Police Department School Resource Officer and Citrus Valley High School administration received a report that a student was potentially in possession of a gun on campus. Redlands Police responded immediately and school administration initiated a lockdown on campus. Multiple RPD units arrived on campus and the student in question was identified and immediately contacted. |
During the investigation, a Redlands Police weapons detection K9 unit was used, and the school remained on lockdown during second and a portion of third period while a search was conducted. No weapon was located. Based on the search and information provided during the investigation it was determined that there was no credible threat to Citrus Valley High School. The lockdown was lifted, and students were released to passing period and to their third period classes. In an abundance of caution, Citrus Valley requested additional safety officers and Redlands Police Department officers to support in supervision of students during passing and lunch periods. RPD officers remained in place for the remainder of the day. |

08/22/2024 | Moore Middle School | Following reports from a day earlier, a student reported seeing a gun being passed among students on campus. The campus was put on lockdown while RPD conducted an extensive search with the assistance of four K9s trained to detect weapons. | No weapons were found and none of the K9s alerted to the presence of weapons. RPD was unable to locate any witnesses who claimed to have seen a weapon, although a student said they saw a picture of a weapon. Following the search, officers went to every classroom and provided information to the students. | ||||
08/21/2024 | Moore Middle School | School administrators notified Redlands Police after two students were reported telling other students after school that they were going to bring a weapon to school on Thursday. | Officers conducted a consent search of both students’ residences and determined there was no credible threat. The students were counseled and the school is handling the administrative discipline process. Out of an abundance of caution, Redlands Police plan an increased presence in and around campus on Thursday. | ||||
08/19/2024 | Moore Middle School | Two 11-year-old students were involved in an argument. One of the students reported that the other threatened her and threatened the campus. | A Redlands Police School Resource Officer contacted both students. Redlands Police were contacted by the principal who reported he had received an anonymous tip that a 12-year-old male student stated he was going to bring a gun to school. |
Officers contacted the juvenile and his parent at their residence. Officers conducted a consent search of the residence and did not locate any evidence of weapons. The family does not have any weapons registered. The student denied making any threats. The threat was determined to be unfounded. |

A 13-year-old student brought a live ammunition round to school. He dropped it in class, and it was found by a teacher. |
Police contacted the student and his mother. The student said he found the ammunition on the street on his way to school. No threats were made, and no guns are registered to anyone at the student’s home. The student and his mother were cited and released. |

05/31/2024 | Citrus Valley High School | Redlands Police were contacted by school security regarding a vague threat to the campus posted on Instagram. There was no indication where the post originated. | The RPD school resource officer assigned to the campus conducted an investigation, along with campus security and identified the student who originated the post. The student denied he intended the threat and said he was only testing out a social media feature. Police contacted the student’s father who indicated the student had no access to firearms. 05/20/2024 | Franklin Elementary School | An 8-year-old student commented during recess that she had a bomb in her backpack. | School administrators placed the campus on “safe and secure” mode. Redlands Police contacted the student who admitted she made up the story about having a bomb because she was upset about a playground incident and being told to come in early from recess. Officers conducted a consent search of the student’s house and found nothing of concern. | ||||

Redlands Police responded to campus after school staff reported allegations that a student may have a gun in a backpack. |
Redlands Police contacted the student, and no gun was located. Officers also conducted a search of the student’s home with permission of his parents and no firearms were located. |

A 9-year-old student told a group of students that he had a gun in his backpack and would shoot them. |
The student’s backpack was searched, and no guns were found. Police contacted the student’s father and confirmed there were no guns in the home and he had no access to guns. The threat was determined not to be credible. The school will handle the administrative discipline process. |

03/05/2024 | Redlands High School |
Redlands High School administrators and Redlands Police became aware of a vague threat to high schools in San Bernardino county traveling through social media late Monday night. Similarly vague threats have been posted on social media in the past. |
RPD has determined the threat to be non-credible. In an abundance of caution, RHS administrators notified parents and RPD increased patrols around Redlands High School on Tuesday. |

03/01/2024 | Moore Middle School | School administration was made aware of a student who took one of the school radios and yelled “active shooter”, which was heard across the radios on campus. School personnel and safety team identified, isolated, and searched the student. |
It was determined through an investigation that there was no credible threat, and there is no danger to Moore Middle students or staff. The safety team provided guidance and support to complete all necessary protocols. The student was counseled, and the school is handling the discipline administratively. |

Campus administrators contacted RPD to report a sixth-grade student who was overheard making a threat against the school. |
The student denied making the statements. Officers conducted a consent search of his residence and determined he does not have access to firearms. The threat was determined not to be credible. The school is conducting their own investigation and will handle any discipline administratively. |

Campus administrators contacted RPD to report a 12-year-old student was found with a replica firearm on campus. |

Redlands Police Department, Cope Middle School Administration and Redlands Unified School District personnel were made aware of a student making a threat against Cope Middle School on Instagram. School personnel worked with the RPD and District Safety team to identify, isolate, and search the student. |
The juvenile admitted to making the statement on Instagram, but said he was joking. RPD contacted the student’s parent who allowed police to conduct a consent search of his residence. No firearms were located. And there are none registered to the parent. Police determined that there is no credible threat at this time, and there is no danger to Cope Middle students or staff. |

School administrators reported a threat made Tuesday against Mission Elementary School. Investigators determined the threat was made by a Cope Middle School student. Redlands Police were able to identify the student. |

A teacher overheard a student tell another student he was going to bring a gun to school. |
Redlands Police investigated and met with the student’s father. Police verified that there were no guns in the student’s home and there was no credible threat and no danger to students or staff. The student was counseled, and the school is handling the discipline administratively. |

School administration contacted RPD after a 9-year-old student reported that during an argument another 9-year-old threatened to shoot him. |
Redlands Police investigated. Witnesses said they never heard anyone mention a gun. Officers contacted the suspect and his parents at their residence. The family consented to a search of their home and police confirmed there were no weapons. The threat was unfounded. |

02/10/2024 | Kingsbury Elementary School |
Redlands Police responded to a report of a threat made Saturday in an online text thread among a group of elementary school students. During the thread, a 10-year-old student posted a video of himself with a handgun and said he was going to bring the gun to school on Monday and shoot one of the other students. |
RPD was able to determine the student’s identity and contacted him and his mother at their residence. The gun was found to be a water pistol, and there were no weapons registered to the family. The student told police he was just joking. The threat was unfounded and no crime was committed. |

1/10/2024 | Citrus Valley High School | A female student located a note in the female restroom sanitary bin indicating a threat against Citrus Valley High School. |
Redlands Police Department immediately launched an investigation, and the school was placed into safe and secure mode. Upon the arrival of the K9 unit, the school was placed in lockdown to ensure the safety of the students. The K9 unit did not locate any firearms or ammunition in targeted areas. At this time, the threat does not appear to be credible. Officers will conduct extra patrols in the area to ensure the safety of the students and faculty. |

12/13/2023 | Crafton Elementary School | Redlands Police assisted another agency in the arrest of a suspect at Crafton Park. | Crafton Elementary School went into safe and secure mode while the suspect was located. The suspect was arrested without further incident. | ||||
11/18/2023 | Citrus Valley High School |
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies contacted Redlands Police regarding a threatening social media post involving Citrus Valley High School. Following investigation, police learned the threat was posted by a 9-year-old Highland girl. |
Police conducted a consent search of the girl’s home and found she did not have access to weapons. The girl’s family cooperated with the investigation. It was determined the threat was unfounded. The family was provided with counseling for the child. |

11/14/2023 | Cope Middle School |
Redlands Police arrested two Cope Middle School students Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 14, after a loaded gun was discovered where it had been discarded in a campus restroom.
Officers were on campus after responding to a report of a bomb threat that was phoned in to the school earlier in the day. RPD worked with campus safety and school administrators. Following investigation, including a thorough search of the campus with a police K9, that threat was determined to be unfounded.
As police were completing their investigation, they received a report that a student was seen discarding a handgun into a trash receptacle in the restroom. Police searched the restroom and recovered the loaded weapon. |
Following investigation, officers identified a 13-year-old boy who had discarded the weapon. Further investigation identified a 14-year-old boy who had originally brought the gun to school.
Following a search of their homes, both teens were arrested for possession of a loaded firearm on campus. |

School administrators received an anonymous tip during lunch period that a student was in possession of a firearm and had a list of targets. Based on the circumstances, administrators ended lunch early. |
The Redlands Police School Resource Officer contacted the student and determined he was not in possession of a firearm or any weapon and did not have a list of targets. Police contacted the student’s family who consented to a search of their home. Officers confirmed the student does not have access to weapons. The threat was determined not to be credible. |

A student was having issues with another student and made threats against her and the school. |
Redlands Police responded to the campus and contacted the student and his mother. Officers conducted a consent search of the student’s home and determined he had no access to weapons and the threat was not credible. The school is handling the administrative discipline process. |

A student reported receiving threats from another student that he would shoot him. |
Police contacted everyone involved. The suspect student denied making the threats. Officers went to the suspect’s residence, performed a consent search for weapons and determined that the student has no access to weapons. School officials will conduct a separate investigation to determine appropriate discipline. |

A student brought a BB gun to school. The principal confiscated the BB gun and contacted Redlands Police. |
Officers contacted the student and verified that he had no other weapons. Officers responded to the student’s home and determined that he had no access to weapons. Police determined there was no credible threat. The student told police he was upset over being bullied. The student was counseled. School administrators notified families of students. The school is handling the administrative discipline process. |

An 11-year-old student told another student that she had a handgun in her pocket. Other students overheard the remarks and reported it to school administrators who contacted Redlands Police. |

A 9-year-old student was being called names by another student. He pushed her against a wall and said he was going to shoot up the school. |
Redlands Police responded and contacted the student and his mother. Police conducted a consent search of the student’s home and determined there were no weapons in the home, and the student had no access to weapons. He said he made the threats because he was upset. The threat was determined to be unfounded, and the student was counseled. |

Administrators reported they had received an alert from the school district’s Gaggle student safety monitoring software regarding a threat against the school on Friday. |
UPDATED: Police made contact with the student and learned that he had not attended school the day the message was sent. Officers conducted a consent search of the student’s home and determined he had no access to weapons. After further investigation on Friday, officers identified the student who had sent the message. The student and his parents were counseled. The threat was determined to be unfounded. The school is handling the administrative discipline process. |

A 6-year-old student threatened to harm two other students with a gun and a knife. No weapons were seen. |
Officers contacted all students involved and their parents and conducted a consent search of the student’s home. Officers found a BB-gun in the parents’ room but no other firearms. The threat was found not to be credible. The school is handling the administrative discipline process. |

Redlands Police received a report of a video showing the Redlands High School campus in which an adult subject discusses how to conduct a school shooting. The man did not make any actionable threats and at this time it does not appear any crimes were committed. |
RPD contacted the subject in the video and determined the threat was not credible. The man told police he was just educating the public. School administrators sent a letter to parents notifying them of the incident and the results of the investigation. | ||||
05/12/2023 | Citrus Valley High School | RPD responded to calls of a sound like an explosion on campus at Citrus Valley High School during lunch period Friday afternoon. The campus was placed on lockdown until shortly before 3 p.m.. | Officers arrived and determined that two students had set off a firework. Both students are in custody. No injuries or damage were reported. There is no threat to the school, students or staff. | ||||

RPD received information that a student overheard another student making threats against the school. |
An RPD school resource officer investigated the reports and confirmed with students and the teacher that there was a student outburst but no threats were made. A consensual search of the student’s residence confirmed that there was no access to firearms. No elements of a criminal threat were found. School administrators addressed the student’s outburst and other issues. |

02/17/2023 | Arrowhead Christian Academy | Redlands Police responded at about 10 a.m. Friday morning to a threat written on a boys’ bathroom wall at Arrowhead Christian Academy. School administrators notified parents and students were released prior to police arriving on campus. Later in the morning, photos of the threatening message were circulated by students at other Redlands high school campuses. |
Redlands Police conducted an investigation and searched the campus using a dog trained in detecting firearms. It was determined that the threat was not credible. Police have found no credible threat to any other campuses. |

San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies contacted RPD to report that an Orangewood High School student called them to report that her ex-boyfriend threatened to shoot up a Redlands Unified School District dance being held that day in the Yucaipa Community Center. Redlands Police handled the incident because the victim is a Redlands resident. |
RPD contacted the suspect who admitted making the statement in anger. Officers responded to the suspect’s residence in Fontana and obtained permission to search it for firearms. No weapons were found. RUSD security personnel were advised. |

Citrus Valley High School |
A 17-year-old student brandished a knife toward another student at a bus stop near the campus after school. The next day the student brought the knife to school and hid it in some bushes on campus. |
Redlands Police located the knife and arrested the student for brandishing a weapon and possessing a fixed blade knife on campus. He was cited and released to his parent. |

District administrators were alerted that a student overheard another student talking about shooting up the school and contacted Redlands Police. |
An RPD School Resource Officer contacted the student and determined the comments were made in a joking manner with his friends. The student was contacted and police determined that he had forgotten to log off a school computer. An unknown subject used the computer to post the threat. The student’s parents were contacted and consented to a search of the home. The threat was unfounded. |

A student reported threatening messages from another student against the school. |
Redlands Police investigated the threat and contacted the student who initially denied sending the messages. He then admitted sending the messages but claimed they were a joke. Officers searched the student’s residence and found nothing consistent with carrying out the threat. |

12/06/2022 | Cope Middle School |
While walking to school in the area of Center Street and Cypress Avenue at approximately 8:45 a.m. a student observed a man in a vehicle masturbating as the student walked by. The suspect was described as a white male, 40-50 years old, heavyset with dark hair and a receding hairline. He was wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and dark blue jeans. His vehicle was described as a white Honda or Nissan 4-door sedan. The man never exited his vehicle and did not approach or speak to the student. |
Police checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. | ||||
11/02/2022 | Clement Middle School |
A 12-year-old Clement student used a pocket knife to cut another student’s hand during lunch period Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 2. |
The school nurse and Redlands Fire Department paramedics treated the student’s injuries and school administrators secured the suspect student until Redlands Police School Resource Officers arrived on campus. Officers located the knife and the student was arrested and transported to juvenile hall. | ||||
10/04/2022 | Cope Middle School |
Two students triggered a computer alert system used by the Redlands Unified School District that flags certain words if they are used on district computers. The students noticed that another student had not logged out of his account on the school computer system. They used that student’s account to send an email to the principal with the subject line “This is a bomb trat (sic)” which triggered the alert. |
The students were contacted and indicated they had sent the email as a joke. No direct threat was made. The district is handling the administrative discipline process. |

A school administrator overheard a student make a statement about having a gun in his backpack. The statement was made after the administrator had confiscated a football from the student. |

School administrators received an anonymous tip that a student was overheard making threats to “shoot up” the campus on the last day of school. |
Officers contacted the suspect student and his mother at the student’s home. The mother told police there were no firearms in the home and consented to a search. No firearms were located and there are no firearms registered. The student told officers he was joking when he made the statement. Officers counseled the student about the seriousness of making such statements. RUSD is handling the administrative discipline process. |

RPD responded to a report of a text message sent to a student regarding a bomb threat directed at teachers during first period. Police cleared the campus area of students and staff while the department’s K9 responded. The K9 did not alert on any bomb material and no suspicious devices were located. |
Investigation traced the threat to a student at Redlands East Valley High School, who was contacted and admitted to sending the text as a joke. He said he was provoked by another student at RHS. That student was contacted and also admitted to provoking the text message. The residences of both students were searched and no further evidence was located. Both juveniles were arrested for making a false bomb threat. |

School administrators contacted RPD to report a student may be in possession of a firearm on campus. Two students reported overhearing the suspect student responding “yes” when he was asked if he had a gun. |
An RPD School Resource Officer contacted the student who said he was participating in a challenge in which he had to respond to prompts with a predetermined statement, intended as a joke. The student was counseled about his choice of language on campus. The School Resource Officer contacted a parent who assured officers that the student has no access to firearms. RUSD is handling the administrative discipline process. |

Redlands Unified School District Campus Safety contacted RPD after a student reported that she overheard a male student tell another that he was going to bring a gun to school. |
The suspect student was identified and admitted making the statement but said that it was intended as a joke. He did not express any intent to harm other students or staff members. RPD responded to the student’s residence and verified he has no access to firearms or other weapons. No evidence was found to indicate a credible threat. RUSD is handling the administrative discipline process. |

RPD responded to a report of a student attempting to sell a handgun, including pictures of the gun posted to social media. |
Police made contact with the student at his mother’s residence in Redlands. His mother was cooperative and allowed a search of the residence which turned up no guns. The juvenile told police the pictures were of an airsoft gun that was at his father’s residence in Banning. Officers contacted the juvenile’s father in Banning. He was cooperative and provided the airsoft gun. He also allowed a search of his residence and no additional weapons were located. School officials were advised. |

Franklin Elementary School |
RPD was contacted by school administrators after a 9-year-old student was found on campus in possession of a weapon. When the officer arrived, the principal had already isolated the student and confiscated the weapon, which was found to be an airsoft gun with an orange tip. |
The officer spoke to the student who said he brought the weapon to show his friends. He did not express any intent to harm anyone and there was no evidence to indicate any such intention. The officer conducted a home visit and verified that there were no other weapons in the home. Based on the student’s age, no criminal charges may be filed. The school district is handling the administrative discipline process. |

The school’s principal contacted RPD after receiving a report that a student mentioned bringing a gun to school. |
The statement was investigated and determined to be unfounded. Based on additional information, however, RPD conducted follow-up investigation at the student’s home. The student’s parents were cooperative with police and confirmed they owned several firearms. Officers were permitted inside to verify that all firearms are kept properly secured. Officers determined that there was no crime. |

School administrators contacted RPD to report written threats made by a seventh-grade student against a classmate. |
RPD investigated. A consent search of the suspect’s residence indicated he had no access to weapons. The other student’s family did not desire prosecution. The school district is handling the administrative discipline process. |

RPD responded to the campus after school administrators were informed by a student that another student may be in possession of a gun. Following an earlier altercation the suspect student reportedly threatened to bring a weapon to school. Working with school administrators, an RPD School Resource Officer contacted the suspect student, conducted a search and verified that he was not in possession of a firearm. The student also denied that the altercation had occurred or that he made any statements threatening to bring a weapon to school. |
Both students were counseled on the consequences of the words they used during the incident. Based on the threat of a firearm, the officer responded to the suspect student’s residence, performed a search of the home with the consent of a parent and verified that the student does not have access to any firearms. The school district is following up with both students through the administrative discipline process. |

During a verbal altercation in class with another student, a student made threatening statements against the school. |
RPD responded and interviewed the student who said he only made the statements out of anger and was not going to carry out the threat. The student was counseled and a home check was conducted. Citrus Valley High School was placed on lockdown for two hours Wednesday as Redlands Police conducted a search of a campus building after a student reported hearing other students refer to having a gun and ammunition. School administrators contacted RPD shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, after a student reported overhearing two other students in a hallway during passing period refer to having a gun and ammunition. No specific threat against the campus or other students or staff was heard. The student who reported the comments was unable to provide a description of the other students except that they were wearing black or dark clothing. |
Using K9 units specializing in detecting weapons, police conducted a thorough search of multiple classrooms and individual searches of all students who matched the clothing description. After approximately two hours, with no firearms or ammunition found, the lockdown was lifted. Redlands Police Officers remained on campus to continue the investigation. “The Redlands Police Department takes the safety of our school campuses and all of the students and staff seriously and investigates all threats and rumors of threatening behavior, no matter how vague,” said Redlands Chief of Police Chris Catren. The Redlands Unified School District provided crisis counseling to students and staff after the lockdown was lifted and will also have counselors available on Thursday. |

The students were in the crosswalk at Citrus Avenue and Church Street at about 7:30 a.m. As they crossed, a man driving a Toyota pickup was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Church onto eastbound Citrus. The driver reported that his view was obstructed by fogging on his windshield and the sun hitting the windshield, and he didn’t see the teens before striking them with his vehicle, knocking both of them to the ground. |
Redlands Fire Department paramedics responded and treated the students on scene. One was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The other was taken to the hospital by a parent. Injuries were reported to be minor to moderate and not life-threatening. The driver was determined not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and there are no charges at this time. |

A student reportedly overheard a conversation that another student talked to another group of students about shooting up the school . |
Officers responded and interviewed school staff and the students who were reportedly part of the conversation. After the investigation, the threats were found not to be credible and what was reported was denied by witnesses. Officers responded to the student’s house and with a parent’s consent, checked the house. There was nothing suspicious or any evidence located. |

Officers were called to Kingsbury Elementary School regarding a student who made a threat against another student. |
The suspect student had already gone home when officers were called. School authorities did locate a small souvenir style pocket knife in the student’s possession. The victim and the victim’s parents did not desire prosecution. The suspect was contacted at his residence and there were no additional weapons located. The incident was investigated and documented. |

A suspect made threats against a home school student who attends the Gorman Learning Center in Redlands. School was not in session at the time the threats were made. Both the suspect and the student live in Riverside County. |
Riverside County Sheriff’s detectives investigated the threat and determined that it did not meet the criteria for a criminal threat. Redlands Police notified administrators of the school. |

A REV student reported an image distributed on a social media site with a threat indicating that there would be a shooting during a school rally on Friday. The threat did not name REV or any RUSD school and the sender could not be linked to the Redlands Unified School District. |
Investigation is ongoing by the Redlands Police Department and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office to determine the source of the threat. At this time it is not believed that a credible threat exists, however, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies will be on campus Friday during REV’s rally and will patrol in the area of REV throughout the day. |
