Heroes & Helpers

With the holidays quickly approaching, it is important to remember that there are some local families who are unable to enjoy the luxuries of a traditional Christmas celebration, particularly gifting toys and presents to the children of the family. With some Redlands residents being low-income or unemployed, it is the aim of the Redlands Police Department, the Redlands Police Community Foundation, and various community organizations and members to assist these families. For the tenth consecutive year, the Redlands Police Department will host its annual Heroes and Helpers event in the month of December at a local retail store. We are seeking monetary donations of $100 or greater to help underprivileged children of Redlands enjoy a Christmas celebration.

Over the past several years, hundreds of children from local schools have participated in this event. The children, nominated by school principals, teachers, police officials, and community leaders, are partnered with members of the Redlands Police Department for a sponsored shopping spree. Each candidate is given $125 to purchase items for themselves and/or their families. Much to our surprise, many of the children purchase toys as gifts for younger siblings, or they select items such as deodorant, soap, socks, and other basic necessities we often take for granted. Your donation will allow these children to spend $125 on items they otherwise would not be able to purchase.

This year, community donations will be greatly needed as we do not anticipate receiving grant funds that have been awarded by retail corporations in the past. Donations for Heroes and Helpers should be made payable to the Redlands Police Community Foundation, and can be mailed to P.O. Box 1025, Redlands, CA 92373. Please remember to specify on the memo line of your check that your donation is for the Heroes and Helpers event. Additionally, you can also make a donation online at www.rpcf365.org (on the donations tab, select Redlands Youth/Community Outreach from the dropdown list. Please remember to add the note “Heroes and Helpers” in the “What’s this payment for?” field.) Your donation is tax deductible (Tax ID #82-2335775) and is a wonderful way of giving back to the community that we are all a part of.

Thank you for your consideration in supporting this important community event. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at tmartinez@redladnspolice.org
