Man arrested for armed robbery after vehicle and foot pursuit

Oct. 11, 2017 – A 26-year-old Corona man was arrested for armed robbery after he held up a local motel before leading police on a short vehicle and foot pursuit Tuesday morning.

Police received the report of an armed robbery at the Motel 6, 1120 W. Colton Ave., shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10. The female clerk there was robbed at gunpoint by a man wearing what was described as a white Halloween mask. The robber escaped with cash and drove away in a white pickup truck.

About 15 minutes later, a Redlands Police officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Brookside and Center. The officer followed the vehicle until the driver abandoned it in the 70 block of Center Street and attempted to flee on foot.

The suspect jumped over several fences through private property before he was taken into custody by officers in the 40 block of Michigan Street.

The suspect, Arturo Zavala Moreno Jr., of Corona, was in possession of the stolen cash. Officers also located a replica handgun and a white mask in the truck.

Moreno was arrested for armed robbery and transported to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
