Report Graffiti, Potholes, Illegal dumping and more!

The Redlands Police Department’s Street Smart self defense program for children and teens is celebrating its fourth anniversary and invites the community to attend.

A promotion test will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Redlands Community Center, 111 W. Lugonia Ave. It will be followed by a short video presentation and potluck.

The Street Smart program, taught by Redlands Police officers, began classes in November 2008. Students from 6-17 years old learn self defense, street awareness, self confidence, self control, personal safety, courtesy, perseverance and fighting spirit.

A promotion test will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Redlands Community Center, 111 W. Lugonia Ave. It will be followed by a short video presentation and potluck.

The promotion test will consist of questions regarding character, benefits of the program and how the program has helped students in their daily lives. The students’ knowledge will be tested in the areas of kicking, punching, sparring and self-defense techniques. Students are awarded a new rank after mastery of the belt level techniques and requirements, allowing students to set short but attainable goals, which can be key for their success in life.
