Redlands Police arrested five drivers for driving under the influence during a grant-funded DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint last weekend.

A total of 157 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in the westbound lanes of Brookside Avenue at Grant Street between 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, and 3 a.m. Oct. 27.  Three drivers were also cited for driving without a license.

Redlands Police will conduct a targeted speed enforcement operation throughout the City from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and a distracted driver enforcement effort from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5. Distractions include dialing, talking, texting or reading texts or emails on a cell phone while driving.

The sobriety checkpoint and the targeted enforcement efforts are funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  For more information on regional/statewide Avoid DUI Task Force campaigns, Enforcement Schedules and Daily DUI Arrest/Fatality statistics, visit the http://www.nhtsa.gov/StopImpairedDriving and www.californiaavoid.org websites.
