A power line caught fire and fell across a parking lot behind a downtown business area, damaging a building and several vehicles late Saturday night.

The Redlands Fire Department responded to reports of a commercial structure fire in the 300 block of Orange Street at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday, April 16. Upon arrival firefighters found an exterior building fire that was threatening several vehicles and adjacent buildings. A power line became involved with fire and eventually fell over several vehicles.

Due to the hazardous nature of an energized power line lying across a busy driveway and several vehicles, firefighters’ were unable to extinguish the fires until crews from Southern California Edison arrived to secure the power line.

Redlands Police diverted traffic from Orange Street for several hours to facilitate the safe movement of fire apparatus and personnel.

Redlands firefighters were assisted by units from San Bernardino County Fire Department, Colton Fire Department and CalFire.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The damage estimate to vehicles and buildings is $20,000. No injuries were reported.
