April Coffee with the Council canceled for groundbreaking event
Posted on 04/13/2016

The City Council’s monthly Coffee with the Council will be canceled for the month of April to allow members of the City Council to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Homes for Our Troops.

Homes for Our Troops is a national non-profit that builds mortgage free, specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans returning home post 9/11. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled Saturday, April 16, to kick off the organization’s latest project in Redlands. Mayor Paul Foster will be speaking during the ceremony and other City Council members will be in attendance.

The monthly Coffee with the Council was begun in February 2011 as part of the City’s continuing efforts to increase interaction with residents and promote transparency in City affairs.

The informal meetings are held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month, rotating among three local restaurants – Olive Avenue Market, 530 W. Olive Ave; Cuca’s Mexican Food, 1752 E. Lugonia Ave.; and Stell Coffee & Tea Company, 1580 Barton Road, Suite A. Council members rotate attendance, with no more than two members at each meeting.

Council members have held the meetings for the past five years as a way for residents to ask questions or share concerns outside the formal setting of a City Council meeting.

The remaining schedule for this year’s Coffee with the Council meetings is included below.

  • May 21 - Cuca's Mexican Food
  • June 18 - Olive Avenue Market
  • July 16 - Stell Coffee & Tea Company
