A 37-year-old Yucaipa man was arrested just hours after a carjacking from the parking lot of a Redlands restaurant.

The victim, a 49-year-old Fontana woman, was sitting in the passenger seat of her 1996 Chevrolet passenger van in the parking lot of Denny’s, 1180 Alabama St., early Thursday morning, May 19, when a man entered the driver’s side of the vehicle and demanded money. The victim jumped out of the van and the man drove away.

Officers were able to identify the suspect as Edgar Eric Arreola. Redlands Police alerted surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for Arreola and the stolen van.

At about 6:30 a.m. San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a pursuit of the stolen vehicle. Although the driver evaded police, the vehicle was soon found abandoned near Avenue E in Yucaipa. Redlands Police and Sheriff’s deputies located Arreola in the 31900 block of Avenue E and took him into custody.

Arreola is being held at West Valley Detention Center on charges of carjacking, evading police and possession of stolen property.
