Capital Improvement Program

The capital improvement program of the Engineering Division includes engineering and contract administration for major projects for streets, storm drains, parks, and various public buildings. The division staff either provides in-house design for the improvement, or administers consultant contracts for major project designs outside of the scope of staff to complete. Staff handles all contract administration related to bids, project execution, final inspection and payments. Questions regarding any Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department Capital Improvement Project, please call (909) 798-7698. The City of Redlands Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department makes its Capital Improvement Construction Projects for bid available in several bid publication services. Many of the City's street-related capital improvement projects are funded through the use of Measure I funds. Adopted by San Bernardino County voters in 1989, Measure I is a major source of revenue for transportation improvements in the City of Redlands. This 20-year half-cent sales tax provided more than $10.0 million for Redlands' streets and roads during the first 14 years. Regional projects are also funded by Measure I. Several freeway improvement projects are being developed. The most recent project is widening the freeway through Redlands between Orange Street and Ford Street by adding a mixed-flow lane in both directions in the center median island, and install sound walls in various locations between Orange Street and Highland Avenue on both sides of the freeway.  In 2004 the voters approved the reauthorization of Measure "I" to extend the half-cent sales tax to fund local and regional transportation improvement for an additional 30 year period.  More information on the Measure "I" program(s) can be found at: http://www.sanbag.ca.gov/projects/mi_fwy_i10-expansion.html

    • Established in 1988, Redlands Market Night has established itself as one of the most successful certified farmers markets in Southern California! Vendors vie to participate in the event that has attracted thousands of weekly visitors since its inception. Visitors are welcomed into an inviting atmosphere complete with lighted trees, brick sidewalks, historic buildings, and great musical entertainment. Crowds are pleasantly surrounded by over 150 food and merchandise booths, not to mention the downtown shopkeepers, every Thursday night.

    • The City’s successful Saturday Morning Certified Farmers Market brings fresh local produce to historic downtown Redlands every Saturday.

      The Saturday Morning Certified Farmers’ Market began June 6, 2009, bringing local growers to the City parking lot south of Redlands Boulevard between Fifth and Sixth streets near Ed Hales Park. The market operates from 8 to 11 a.m. every Saturday, excluding holiday weekends.

    • During operating hours, residents can dispose of household materials including, outdated prescription medication (with the exception of controlled substances), outdated pet prescription medication, paint products, chemical cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, hobby/pool supplies, automotive oil, filters, brake fluid, transmission fluid, anti-freeze, gasoline, and propane tanks.
